It’s been a busy week…

I’ve been rushed off my feet so apologies for lack of posts this past week! (that rhymes!)

My anonymity essay has to be handed in today and Public Admin work tomorrow so fashion news had to be put on hold. But no more. It’s Christmas time, lets indulge ourselves in fashion.

UPDATE

The House of Commons reporting day was amazing. Absolutely loved it. Took an amazing photo within the grounds of Big Ben, the Millennium Wheel and their Xmas tree. Will upload it asap.

Found an ITV crew doing live reporting from there and chatted to the crew. Really lovely. Correspondant- very smartly dressed, however, his make up was far too thick.

Perhaps should reconsider the white trenchcoat next time. Was unecessarily cold at times. Shivering in lobby, goose pumps in conference room, you get the idea.

PARTY

Was my best friend’s (of Barry M Fame-she met him actually!) birthday party on Saturday. Had a good time. Dressed in purple concession dress from Topshop. Very vintage and ‘romantic’. I loved it. Early Christmas present from my mum in fact. Wore yummy purple suede shoes. But i’ll tell you all about them in my next post…Bet you can’t wait.

I came, I saw, I most definately was not conquered….

If you have read my previous post on Comme les Garcons (which you really should), you will all know that I was really looking foward to this collection.

In short, Comme des Garcons is a japanese fashion label headed by Rei Kawakubo and is high edge fashion. H&M decided to do with a collaboration with said designer and there was much excitement.

Launch day

This Thursday was the big day, well for most of us anyway.

Wednesday night, H&M in Regent Street held a celebrity VIP shopping event with Katy Perry, Jamie Winstone and Bond Girl Gemma Arterton who all snapped up ‘the’ pieces.

Aside from that, I couldn’t make it to an H&M (in this case the Oxford Circus one) before 3pm due to work commitments…So all the key items would have gone by then I figured…

I was right. How can I describe the collection when I got there? Hmmm… SPARSE.

On the press release for this collection, there were supposed to be the following:

*  classic trench coats £99.99 (did find these, they were nice but over priced for an H&M shopper)

*  velvet dresses £69.99  (nope, didn’t find any of these)

*  structured pencil skirts £39.99 (again no luck)

*  frill blouses £34.99 (not sure whether I found these or not, many blouses but lack of frill)

etc…

All that I did find, I bundled into my arms and stuffed it into the changing room and of course took a picture for all to see…

The clothes fitted averagely, they weren’t amazing. But what struck me was how bland the collection was.

The colours were so muted. The only think that looked rather nice was a jumper with navy, grey and black panels. However, that is most definately a ‘weekend’ kind of jumper.

I got extremely excited by the white shirt.

It looked great on the hanger, it was designer but not expensive and I had been looking for one similar for ages.
But when I tried it on. Nothing. It looked like any old shirt- not the one I have looking for…
Totally disillusioned, I went around the rest of the H&M store and saw lots of things I liked and they weren’t unreasonably expensive! Result!

So the trip wasn’t a complete waste after all…

Fashion Networking

This is the ‘new’ thing to do.

You dress up and circulate around the room. Business cards are left on tables and everyone smiles warmly at eachother.

Everyone looks different, an eclectic mix of styles and colours.

The purpose is to get a foot in the door of the fashion industry.

Events like this are springing up all over London, especially as it seems to have regained its status as the capital of fashion…

the outfit in question

Outfits

One person’s idea of fashion is not necessarily the same as someone elses however.

Yes, i did observe this whilst people watching…

Some women looked very classic, others were obviously out to shock.

I decided to ask one of my friends, a fashion journalist, what she thought this outfit above…

All in all…

The event was good and I would definitely recommend it for those who like their fashion.

But, if you are looking for glamour, glamour, glamour, maybe it’s not the place for you! This is about hard working people who want to get ahead in the industry.

Keep your eyes open, I hear the organizer is planning a fashion show before christmas….
